Nesting and G-code in a single pass

Upload multiple DXF, SVG and STEP parts with quantities, specify the sheet size, and step2gcode arranges the parts space-efficiently, with 90-degree rotation and adjustable spacing. The G-code for all parts is created in a single job, without exporting to a second program.

Based on our research (as of July 2026), step2gcode is the only free browser tool that combines STEP import with integrated nesting.

The nesting tool does not load in this view without JavaScript. Open www.step2gcode.com in your browser and drag several files into the upload field.

The classic route needs two programs

  • Nesting tool plus CAM: First compute the layout in a dedicated nesting program, then export and generate the G-code in CAM. Every quantity change restarts the loop.
  • Errors in the intermediate export: Scale, units or contour assignment like to break between the programs and only show up in the material.
  • Depths get lost: Pure nesting tools only know flat outlines. step2gcode also nests STEP parts including their pockets and holes.

Nesting at a glance

  • DXF, SVG and STEP mixed on one sheet, with quantity per part
  • Real shape nesting with optional 90-degree rotation
  • Adjustable part spacing and sheet margin
  • Pockets and holes from STEP are preserved per part
  • One G-code job for the whole sheet, for milling and laser mode

Frequently asked questions

Which formats can I nest?

DXF, SVG and STEP, even mixed on the same sheet. STEP parts bring their depth information along: pockets and holes are preserved per part and end up in the G-code.

Does the nesting rotate parts?

Yes, optionally by 90 degrees when that fits more parts onto the sheet. Spacing between parts and the margin to the sheet edge are adjustable.

How do I start nesting?

Simply drag several files into the upload field at once or open "Arrange multiple parts", set quantities, specify the sheet size, let it arrange and download the combined G-code.
